Itinerary in detail

Arrival in Nairobi

Welcome to Kenya. Upon arrival in Nairobi, a local representative will be waiting at the airport to transfer you to your comfortable hotel. Overnight at Eka Hotel.

Things to do:

2

Nairobi

Today is free to relax and explore the capital city of Nairobi. Choose from an exciting selection of optional activities to create your bespoke family day out. Options include the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Centre, and the Empowering Mothers and Go Granny Go community projects. Overnight at Eka Hotel.

Things to do:

3

Nairobi & Maasai Mara

After breakfast, enjoy a scenic flight by light aircraft to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Your home for the next 3 nights is an authentic camp set in the heart of this wildlife-rich reserve, where you’ll sleep in a family safari tent. Sarova Mara Game Camp offers a classic safari experience with the comfort of a hotel-style residence. Your plans for the following days are incredibly flexible, with daily games drives accompanied by expert local guides as well as plenty of activities and a kids club back at camp. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp.

Things to do:

4

Maasai Mara

Wake up to splendid views across the Mara plains and a hearty breakfast in the Isokon restaurant. The Maasai Mara is home to one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the world and today you’ll begin to discover it. The region is deservedly famous for its big cats but is also a fantastic place to experience other wildlife including elephants, giraffe, zebra, antelope, impala, hyenas and warthogs. It's a joy to see your children learn about and appreciate wildlife and nature on a family game drive around the reserve. Back at camp, The Ozone Rangers Club provides plenty of activities for children and the opportunity for their own exploration into the wild. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp.

Things to do:

5

Maasai Mara

During your stay there’s the opportunity to take a thrilling hot-air balloon safari to gain a whole new perspective of the Maasai Mara. Wake early and watch as the balloon is prepared, then take flight and drift upwards as the sun rises and wildlife roam below. This is our most popular optional experience in Kenya. The rest of the day is spent wildlife spotting on further game drives. Return to camp for a dip in the swimming pool or to unwind at the Tulia wellness tent. Overnight at Sarova Mara Game Camp.

Things to do:

6

Maasai Mara & Watamu

With your safari completed it’s time to hit the beach. After breakfast you’ll fly via Nairobi to Malindi on Kenya’s coast to spend the next five nights in a sprawling tropical hotel on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Features include a beach-side pool, two bars and a sea-view restaurant with all-inclusive meals for snacks and drinks on tap. Fabulous Junior Suites can accommodate two adults and two children with enough space for an extra bed, plus a terrace from where you can relax and congregate. Activities go beyond the imagination. Think Swahili story telling, shell collecting, painting sessions and movie nights. For larger families or more independence you might prefer Hemingways Watamu and its choice of luxury hotel rooms or 2 and 4 bedroom apartments. Overnight at Diamonds Dream of Africa.

Things to do:

7

Watamu

With over 600 species of fish flitting among corals, the Watamu Marine National Park is a veritable paradise for diving and snorkelling. Both can be arranged from the hotel. You may also spot turtles swimming ashore to bury their eggs in the sand, or even humpback whales during July and August. Overnight at Diamonds Dream of Africa.

Things to do:

8

Watamu

The town of Malindi is well worth a visit to explore the crumbling Gedi Ruins. Dating back to the early 13th century, this once-grand Swahili town is UNESCO-listed. Tree roots tangle with stone walls and branches overhang grand arches, as the remains are slowly reclaimed by primeval forest. Known as ‘Little Italy’ due to its population of Italian expats, Malindi’s streets are filled with gelato shops and pizzerias that are perfect for a sea-front feast. Overnight at Diamonds Dream of Africa.

Things to do:

9

Watamu

Today you might want to relax or if feeling active, there is a wide selection of water sports available including canoeing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding. Overnight at Diamonds Dream of Africa.

Things to do:

Watamu

It's your last day in paradise. You might want to treat yourself to a spa treatment at The Thalasso Spa, the only kind in East Africa, it features a freshwater pool and multiple massage jets, as well as a salt-water pool. Overnight at Diamonds Dream of Africa.

Things to do:

11

Watamu & Departure

Alfred & Helen Austin

Helen was fascinated by travel from an early age, avidly watching holiday programmes and dreaming of future travel plans. Fantasy became reality when she joined Kuoni just over 20 years ago, and she has continued to explore ever since. She fell in love with Africa on her first safari experience in Zambia, watching an elephant herd meander across a dusty track as the sun set dramatically. Subsequent trips to South Africa, Namibia, and Kenya have further fuelled her passion for the wildlife, diverse cultures, and beautiful landscapes of her favourite continent.
